Tatami omote mats made of rice straw are traditionally rolled and have folded ends. This special winding provides additional stability. This makes it easier to place on the tameshigiri stand. Our mat on offer has an unrolled size of 108 x 200 cm and is therefore much larger than some other models. To prepare for your cutting exercises, place the tatami mats in water a day in advance and leave them to dry for about half a day. The soaking and drying process gives the tatami mats the necessary resistance for your cutting.
It is important for you to know that many cheaper tatami omote mats are sewn together from two pieces of mat. These are often two simple bath mats that have been joined together. The mats we offer here are made from one continuous fibre. This provides greater stability and the mat performs much better in the cut test.
The tatami omote mat has a binding made of hemp fibre. If your sword hits the binding, the fibre is simply cut. Be careful with inferior mats, these are often bound with cable ties or wire. This can lead to damage to your blade.
Our mat is of very good quality and has a fibre thickness of approx. 1-2 mm. The tatami omote mat is ideal for beginners and advanced warriors. Each mat is individually shrink-wrapped, which keeps moisture away from the mat and makes it storable for longer.

Please note: For cutting tests, you should already have experience in handling sharpened katana. Not every katana is suitable for cutting tests. For a cutting test, we recommend a differentially hardened blade with a hardness of approx. 60 Rockwell.
