Tatami Omote
The name Tameshigiri means the traditional cut test with a sharp katana. This type of cut test was first used in the 17th century to test the quality of samurai swords. For the cutting test, tatami omote mats made of rushes are used. These are soaked in water a day beforehand in preparation and should dry well for half a day.
Tameshigiri is very popular in martial arts today. Experienced and advanced warriors show their skills in the cutting tests. This involves cutting through a target or multiple targets with different cuts.
I carry in my store Tatami Omote mats which have a good quality and which have been tested in practice by different swordsmen. We offer you the option to order a single tatami mat or several tatami omote mats. If you want to order more than 100 pieces - please contact us. We will be happy to make you a special offer.
Please note: For your cutting tests you should have a longer experience in handling sharpened katanas / samurai swords. Not every katana is suitable for cutting tests. For a cutting test we recommend a differentiated hardened blade with a hardness of approx. 60 degrees Rockwell.
