In the martial school Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu, Ninpo) and also in the Jōdō our Jutte (Jitte) made of beech wood finds its application. The jute is used to block sword blows or to intercept them by twisting the jute between shaft and tines. The jutte (Japanese for "ten hands") was used by police forces during the Endo period. Samurai often carried them concealed in their belts.
