Balayong is Philippine cherry wood, a hardwood of incredible lustre, which is mainly used for valuable veneer work. In the Spanish colonial era, balayong was often used for furniture making. Balayong is a resilient wood with good breaking strength, and a national festival is held in honour of the beautiful cherry blossom.
