Our Japanese Tozando Iaito Blade is 2.70 shaku in length. We equipped them with a heavy blade. The Iaito we have equipped with a tsuba die depicting a Japanese apricot tree. A superstition says that eating the fruit for breakfast averts bad luck. The apricot tree is also called Japanese plum or winter cherry. The apricot (ume) blooms in the coldest season and is therefore a symbol of vitality - it defies all adverse conditions.
Menuki and Kashira branch plum blossoms. The cotton tsuka and the polyester sageo are black. The overall picture is rounded off by the black lacquered saya in the Kuroro style. The Suguha Hamon creates a beautifully straight line down the length of the blade. The blade consists of a sand-cast and bubble-free zinc/aluminum alloy.
