What is kiri?
Kiri is also known as "Paulownia Tomentosa". Kiri is an extremely light and valuable wood that has been used in Japan since ancient times to make wooden boxes to store tea ceremony tools and Japanese katanas. Because of its extremely light softness, it is suitable for contact exercises, but can be used for kata practice by children, adolescents, women or people who are recovering from injuries. The kiri-bokken is traditionally used for enbu (performances) and sword dances.
