We are very grateful to schlatt-books for being able to present this only German language translation of the original story of the 47 Ronin to you in our Bokken shop. The book served as a template for the movie - 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves.
On a cold January night in 1702, 47 samurai of a Japanese country gentleman take bloody revenge for their master out of loyalty, a sense of duty, loyalty and honor. They are well aware of the consequences this act has for their own lives. Out of knightly loyalty they violate the laws of the Shôgun and have to pay for their offense with their lives.
This incident is probably the world's most famous episode from the history of feudal Japan. For three hundred years it has formed an important leitmotif in the collective subconscious and self-understanding of millions of Japanese.
The story of the 47 Ronin of Akô raises the question of what it means to follow a life plan that includes the thought of one's own death from the very beginning. In other words, how can we lead a successful life in the face of our own death?
