In mythology, the cherry is closely related to the moon - it is still known today as the "moon tree". Anyone who dares to watch the fairies and elves dancing under the blossoming cherry tree when the moon is full has been threatened with disaster. The cherry tree - as a sacred tree - was dedicated to the goddess Artemis. The red fruits are a symbol of love, fertility and passion. The flowers represent purity, innocence, joy and happiness. In the old days the first bath water of a newborn was poured on a cherry tree so that the child would be beautiful.
