Beautifully luminous and of masterful quality craftsmanship is our Bokken from balayong in the standard form. In the standard form, the handle flows smoothly into the blade. The bokken is well balanced. Its center of gravity is about 15 cm from the end of the handle to the tip of the Bokken (Kissaki). A very warm and pleasant wood, good for practicing the forms and contact work.
Balayong (Cherry Blossom) or Cassia Javanica is a hardwood of incredible luminosity. It is hard to believe that the extremely polished, reddish-brown looking wood is not varnished. Today, the wood is mainly processed into valuable veneer wood. It is rare to find old furniture from the Spanish colonial period made from this wonderful wood. The weight is moderate, but not too light. The breaking strength is good, as is the hardness.
