An almost forgotten and rare Japanese long weapon is the Nagamaki. In our Bokken-Shop we offer you a unique Nagamaki made from local brown or olive ash wood. The peculiarity of this long weapon is that the blade is roughly the same length as the handle. It therefore resembles a mixture of katana and naginata. Today we still find the Nagamaki occasionally in different martial arts such as Jigen Ryu, Toda-Ryu and some Bujinkan schools.
The Nagamaki was particularly widespread from the 12th to the 14th century. The front ranks in a battle were armed with Nagamaki soldiers. Their job was to break through the ranks of the other side.
