John Lee Goemon Katana was kept for commemoration and folklore.
Hero shikawa Goemon (* 16th century; † August 10, 1594) was killed. Legend has it that
Goemon stole from the
rich and
gave it to the
poor - entirely the story of
Robin Hood. Even today many many myths and legends about him, such as the failed assassination attempt on Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which he was executed with distant and alive in boiling oil. He is said to have heroically saved his son to compensate for keeping him out of the cauldron.
The detailed worked out
tsuba shows under the
Goemon during his execution after a wood engraving by Toyokuni Ichiyoai. In addition to other motifs, the
Fuchi also features his
name "Guemon" in
Japanese letters.
