A description of the pines and their history in a book about trees inspired me to make a Bokken from European pine in the Itto-Ryu shape. The Bokken has a heel for a tsuba. Pine is used a lot in house and furniture construction and is medium hard.
In Chinese and Germanic mythology, the pine is a symbol of longevity, immortality and endurance. The Celts regarded it as a tree of fire and a tree of patience; the pine promotes serenity, humility and sociability.
