Our handcrafted and fine elm bokken in the Itto-Ryu shape is a rarity. The Bokken has an approach for a tsuba. The elm is a very old tree species and is said to have existed 10 million years ago. Elm is a hard, break-proof and elastic wood. The wood feels pleasantly warm and soft in the hand.
The elm, in its spiritual meaning, is considered the tree of intuition and adulthood. In Germanic mythology, the elm is the family tree of women. The Celts also worshiped the elm as a sacred tree. For the Greeks, the elm was a symbol of dreams, the underworld and death. The elm is a worthy and ancient creature that inspires trust and gives us ample support.
